Advanced Options Dialog, Separations Tab

Contains controls to set colour separation parameters.

Some non-standard PostScript devices may experience problems decoding compressed data. If this occurs, they either produce a PostScript error or refuse to print plot files. In this case, a process of elimination must be used to select a compression format that works. Using simple test files is often the quickest method.

SettingDescription
Output Separates

Sets colour separation parameters. A colour separation plot normally produces four output files, one each for cyan, magenta, yellow, and black colour components. If EPS is selected, an extra EPS header file is created. An additional file is created for each spot colour defined. Unique file names are required to store the print files that relate to each of the colour plates. A different letter is appended to the print name for each file. If the print name has 8 characters, the last character is replaced.

Example output file names for a four colour separation:

  • Print File Name: drawing1

  • Output Files produced: drawingc.ps, drawingm.ps, drawingy.ps, drawingb.ps, cyan plate, magenta plate, yellow plate, black plate

  • CS_EXTENSION: ps

Default Bull Eyes and Crop Marks

Aligns the separate colour plates with registration marks (bulls-eyes) and trims the final printed sheet to the exact size with crop marks when producing colour separations. Registration marks must be outside the fenced area being printed so as not appear on the final product. Registration and crop marks are not placed on four colour EPS Separations.

NOTE: Registration marks are 10 mm (0.39 inches) in size. To allow them to be printed on the original film negatives, the size of the print must be at least 20 mm (0.79 inches) smaller than the printable area of the image setter. Thus, the print origins in the Bentley Advanced Map Finishing Print dialog must show at least 10 mm plus the size of the unprintable margins of the device producing the negatives.

Under Colour Removal

Determines the percentage of black removed from the component colour plate (C, M, or Y) to the black plate when producing 4 colour separations. This value ranges from 0 to 100.

  • 0 - produces no UCR and only pure gray and black elements appear on the black plate.

  • 100 - produces full UCR and can be required if the paper being printed on is absorbent, such as newspaper. This setting produces the lowest ink density.

  • 50 - causes most colours to be separated to all four plates.

For example a colour made up of:

  • Black / Cyan / Magenta / Yellow

  • 0.0 / 0.4 / 0.6 / 0.7 with 0% UCR

outputs as:

  • Black / Cyan / Magenta / Yellow

  • 0.2 / 0.2 / 0.4 / 0.5 50% UCR and

  • 0.4 / 0.0 / 0.2 / 0.3 with 100% UCR

Black never knocks out on the other plates. Gray colours always appear on the black plate only.

Plate Information

Shows how the plates are set up. See Bentley Advanced Map Finishing Colour Control dialog.

Emulsion

Sets the film plate as either emulsion side up or down for sending to image setters.
